rainy season begins!
One of Makassar's main power plants is partly down and we've had power outages several times a day since I arrived at the beginning of October. This means that at my school, the A/C goes off intermittently and my students all start yelling "PANAS ma'am!!" and demanding that class be held outside under the mango trees. This frustrates many of my fellow teachers, who then return to the teachers' lounge grumbling about global warming and how the rainy season has never started so late and why is it still so hot! Finally, it has begun. I'm at a "resto" with the unfortunate name BALLS and am stuck here until the rain abates.
